Designed to pivot, swing jib cranes can be mounted to walls or pillars and provide a circular or semi-circular coverage area. They can be a useful substitute for overhead gantry cranes when full workspace coverage is not necessary.
Advantages
- Lifting at a single workstation
- Loading and unloading equipment
- Filling workshop bays
- Situations where a full gantry crane is not feasible
- Routine lifting at a single location
- Products We Offer
- Wall-mounted jibs
- Bolted to walls or columns and take up no floor space. Rotation is typically 180 – 270 degrees.
- Floor-mounted (pillar) jibs
- Freestanding and bolted to the floor. Require a larger floor space and a supportive foundation, but offer 360 degrees of rotation.
Lifting Capacity and Range
- Safe working loads (SWL) from about 125 kg to 5 tons
- Range from 5-6 meters depending on the model
- Can be custom designed to meet unique specifications
- Design for your most frequent lifts as oversized jibs can be more costly.
Things to Keep in Mind
Wall-mounted jibs will require load testing of the wall or supporting column. Not all walls are capable of supporting the loads.
Floor-mounted jibs require a supportive foundation. We’ll evaluate your floor and determine what’s needed prior to installation.
Swing jibs will need clearance for full rotation, consider any nearby obstructing structures, piped services, and lighting.
Swing Jib or Overhead Crane
Swing Jibs are designed for single-point lifting, while overhead cranes are designed for lifting over large or multiple work areas.
Swing jib cranes tend to be a better option when repetitive lifting is to occur in the same position, but if you’re looking to shift loads across an entire shop floor an overhead crane is a better option.
Maintenance
Like every other lifting device, swing jibs are also subjected to LOLER. Inspections are required on a yearly basis, but if the jib is being used frequently the inspections will need to occur more often.
The hoist unit, mounting positions, and the rotation mechanism should be checked frequently. The same is true for any other moving mechanical machinery.
More information will allow us to suggest wall or floor options for your workspace, and suggest reach and SWL for your specific needs.
