New vs Refurbished Chain Hoists

·

·

We sell both. We get questions as to which is best. It depends on what you need.

What Refurbished Means

We completely disassemble each hoist We take apart each component. We replace any broken parts including chains, brake pads, gears, bearings and electric parts. We then reassemble everything, then test and re-certify the unit.

We provide documentation, including test certificates, service records and inspection reports. Refurbished hoists meet the same safety standards as new hoists.

Cost

Refurbished chain hoists are approximately 40-60% of the new price.

For example, a 2-ton refurbished Demag costs around £1,500. A new one costs over £3,000.

When Refurbished Works

For refurbished units to be effective, they must meet the following criteria: 1. Normal equipment specs (1-5 ton capacity, 3-6m lift)

  1. Backup equipment
  2. Tight budgets
  3. Temporary installations
  4. Short-term projects

When New Works

New units must meet the following criteria: 1. Uncommon specifications (very high capacity, extra-long lift, specialist low headroom)

  1. Heavy daily use in critical applications
  2. Specific speed requirements
  3. Manufacturer warranty required
  4. Accounting or insurance preferences

Lifespan

A refurbished unit that is 5-7 years old will still have 10 or more years of service life left if well-maintained.

Warranty

New units have a manufacturer warranty, which is usually 12 months. Refurbished units have a warranty on the work performed and the parts that have been replaced. Both need regular servicing.

What You Actually Need

For example, if you need a standard 2-ton hoist with a 4m lift that you will only use occasionally, then a refurbished unit at £1,500 makes far more sense than a new one at £3,000.

If you need a unit for a clean room with precision work that will be run 8 hours daily, then maybe new is justified.

We sell both new and refurbished units because they both have their place.

Call us. Describe your lifts, frequency, and budget. We’ll explain what makes sense.
